(Mon 21st and Tues 22nd January 2019)
As part of our topic during the Spring term, we have been looking into key geographical features - and what better way to explore first-hand than in our fantastic Forest School site! We made a mountain (named Pinecone Mountain) out of different sized sticks and then conducted an experiment to find out how water travels down the slope. Next, we explored the forest area and made dens, climbed ropes and played hide and seek! At the end of the day, BFG made a fire and we toasted marshmallows and made smores. They were delicious!
The following day, we looked at the landscape around our nature area and then made a 3D map (using tarps, sticks, logs and grass) to represent the contours (hills, trees, plateaus). We also went on a ramble around the site and had to work out whether we were walking up-hill, across a plateau or down-hill. In the afternoon, we had another camp-fire and we watched how pop-corn is made; it was brilliant seeing and hearing the pops!
