In their first year in school, children's learning and development is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. For more information see link for Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum on previous Curriculum page.
For children in Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 the following poster documents detail the curriculum taught in reading, writing, mathematics and science to age-related expectations. For example, children in Year 1 work towards Band 1, Year 2 towards Band 2 and so on.
It is important that children are secure in one band before moving onto the next, so it is possible that a child may be working at a Band below their Year group. Equally, they may be working at a Band above, although this is rare as the objectives of the skills-based curriculum allow for extension within each Band. In either case, you will be make aware by your child's class teacher.
Children in Years 1 to 6 have individual targets in reading, writing and mathematics. On the posters below you will see that there are objectives that have been highlighted. These are called KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS and are the key targets that your child will be working towards within their age BAND.
If you would like more information or clarification, speak to your child's class teacher.
